The Sabre 38 is now available with Volvo IPS! Pod drives are very popular and for many good reasons. Smaller engines coupled to pod drives provide plenty of benefits to the boat owner and crew from performance to quietness of operation and incredible maneuverability. Yes, you can dock like a rock star with a pod driven boat and it really is child's play. Following on the successful launch of the Sabre 42 Express with Zeus pod drives, Sabre recently introduced the Sabre 38 Express with IPS drives in time for a debut at most of the East Coast's fall boat shows. Response has been very positive, as many boaters concerned about slow speed handling have recognized the benefits of joystick operation.
In tight quarters the joystick allows for total control of the boat. The operator can literally move the boat in any direction that she or he wants to simply by twisting, pushing or pulling with the fingertips. The joystick makes boat handling far less stressful and far more enjoyable.
As for the additional benefits of pods, quiet operation is also a key feature. With straight drive diesel powered boats, exhaust gases exit through large ports in the hull side. This noise can "bounce" off the boat's wake and be deflected back to the occupants. With both IPS and Zeus exhaust exits through the propeller wash and leaves the boat underwater thus reducing exhaust noise and typically driving overall noise levels below 80 db.
